As much as Cincinnati has changed over the years (and continues to do so), there are still classic experiences that define our city. There are certain foods, places, and activities that make Cincinnati unique and rightfully give it the nickname of the Queen City. Whether you're a local, a visitor, or a local with a visitor in town, this list will take you around the city and show you the classics. Of course, there is so much to experience here, but when it gets down to it, here are nine ways to have the most Cincinnati day ever.
1. Eat goetta at a local diner.
A "best day ever" in Cincinnati should definitely begin with goetta. This favorite breakfast meat is served at many local spots, and one of the best is Tucker's on Vine. This historic diner is a classic hole-in-the-wall and has incredible food and a welcoming, vintage atmosphere. Learn more about Tucker's Restaurant in our previous article here.
2. Walk around Eden Park.
After filling your belly, head up the hill into Eden Park. This historic Cincinnati park is the source of so many stories (some a bit creepy), interesting history, and beautiful scenery and views. Be sure to walk around Mirror Lake, have a seat in the gazebo, and check out the views of the river valley. Read about the haunted tales from Eden Park in our previous article here.
3. Visit the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden.
The Cincinnati Zoo is always ranked as one of the top zoos in the country, and it's more popular than ever thanks to our lovable hippo, Fiona. The zoo is open year round and whether you visit for the tulips in the spring, the lights in the winter, or any other time, it is definitely a beloved destination in Cincinnati. Learn more about the Festival of Lights, held at the zoo, in our previous article here.
4. Have Skyline for lunch.
You knew it was coming. And since you'll be leaving the zoo, it's best to head to the Clifton Skyline at the corner of Clifton and Ludlow. Sit at the counter and order a 3-Way and a cheese coney, and munch away on those perfect little crackers. It doesn't get more Cincinnati than this. For more on Clifton and other charming neighborhoods in Cincinnati, check out our previous article here.
5. Go to the top of Carew Tower.
Continue your best Cincinnati day downtown at Carew Tower. The city's second tallest building has an observation deck at the top that offers amazing 360-degree views. This experience will surely deepen your love and appreciation for our city. Learn more about this experience in our previous article here.
6. Walk along the river.
The Riverwalk is actually a trail that takes you along the Ohio River in both Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. There are many parks, historic markers, and activities to do along this path, as well as beautiful views of the city. Find out more about the Riverwalk in our previous article here.
7. Have dinner at LaRosa's.
There are so many wonderful restaurants in Cincinnati, but since we're staying classic, you'll need to grab a table at LaRosa's and order some pizza or a hoagie. If you want to be truly authentic, visit the location on Boudinot, since LaRosa's did begin in the heart of the west side. Discover other classic Cincinnati foods in our previous article here.
8. and 9. Enjoy Graeter's Ice Cream on Fountain Square.
How convenient is it that you can end your classic Cincinnati day with two of the best things about our city? There happens to be a Graeter's right on Fountain Square, so head in and order a scoop of your favorite flavor. Then, take it out to Fountain Square and relax or enjoy whatever activity is happening that evening in the center of our incredible city. Learn about some of the best ways to experience Fountain Square in our previous article here.
We love this city and all that it offers - so much so that there could be countless items on this list! But when you think about the classic Cincinnati experience, these nine things really sum up the Queen City. What do you think of this list? What else would you add? Depending on the time of year, a Reds or Bengals game, as well as a festival would all be great additions! Share your thoughts in the comments!
