As the weather cools down and the leaves change color, fall is the perfect time for a train ride.
Just north of Cincinnati in Lebanon is the historic LM & M Railroad. Each fall, they offer rides on the Fall Flyer, aboard one of their restored 1930s Lackawanna coaches. Dates for 2018 include October 20, 21, 27, and 28.
When you arrive at the train station, you'll want to give yourself some extra time to enjoy the fall fun and activities for the kids.
This year, each ticketed child will receive a free pie pumpkin, and each adult will receive a tote bag!
At the station, you'll also see The Black Barn, a local greenhouse and farm market.
They will have their shop on-board selling apple cider, pie, caramel apples, and more. The shop will be located in train car 104. Keep in mind that the Barn is cash only.
There is also a small hay maze for the kids to burn off some energy before boarding the train. They can also take a few minutes to paint their pumpkins, either before or after the ride.
Once the train boards, you'll be able to sit back, relax and take in the lovely fall foliage of Warren County.
The colors tend to peak in mid to late October, so that is something to keep in mind when you book your tickets. And you do want to reserve these ahead of time, as many of the popular rides will sell out. The photo above is of a section of Warren County near Caesars Creek and shows you what the colors will be like during your ride.
While on the 10-mile, hour and fifteen minute trek, you'll learn some local history from the conductor and have plenty of time for relaxing and picture-taking.
There is reserved seating on the ride, but if you'd like a chance to sit in the completely open-air Gondola car, it's first come first serve and is opened soon after boarding is complete. If you can make your way there, it's the ideal spot on a gorgeous fall day.
Riding the rails through Warren County is a one-of-a-kind experience that you won't soon forget.
This excursion is perfect for fall, but also be sure to check their website for the other themed rides and events that the railroad hosts throughout the year.
The Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad is located at 127 S. Mechanic St. Lebanon, Ohio, OH 45036. For more information and to reserve tickets, visit their website here.
