North Dakota has some of the most charming small towns you'll find. Many of them haven't changed much over the years, with remnants of what many would consider the "good old days." If you're looking to take a nostalgia trip, you don't need to crack open old photo albums or anything, you can take a stroll through these old small towns in North Dakota. Even looking at these pictures might give you some great memories:
1. Walking through downtown Hillsboro, you'll still find family-owned businesses and old signs.
2. This retro company van is hanging out among some historic buildings in Belfield, North Dakota.
3. What's more pleasant than a sunny day in beautiful, still-quiet towns like Killdeer?
4. Many small towns in North Dakota still have vintage movie theaters with neat signs and marquees, such as this one in Cavalier.
5. Brocket, North Dakota, a town of just 53 people, still had an old gas station complete with an old truck to set the scene in this photo.
6. Speaking of cars of yesteryear, you can still pull up to classic drive-ins in towns like Grafton at the Westside. Their burgers are legendary!
7. Here's something you don't see often anymore, but was found hiding in North Dakota: TV repair stores. Now that's a blast from the past!
8. Many buildings on small town's main streets have been around since the town was founded, some for over 100 years. They still have faded painted advertisements for companies or products that are probably long since defunct. This one was photographed in Lakota, North Dakota.
9. North Dakota's small towns often have churches that are decades old and have seen generations of lives pray, marry, and so on within their walls, like this one in Absaraka.
10. What small town is complete without a grain elevator just on the edge? Even though some towns have much newer elevators further down the track now, many still have old ones that have been around for as long as the townspeople can remember, such as this one in Haynes.
If you grew up in a North Dakota small town, what are your favorite memories? Here are some retro photos that show what life was like back in the 1930s in North Dakota that will give people a glimpse of the past.
