Make the most of the wintertime by visiting the perfect place in North Dakota to enjoy it. We're not talking about some big a bustling ski resort area or anything like that, but rather a quaint small town that transforms into a winter wonderland. This time of year is perfect to visit, and here's why:
The tiny town of Fort Ransom is the perfect winter getaway to visit after the snow has fallen and the river valley it's nestled in turns into a beautiful snowy scene.
The town is made up of only 77 residents, but many more come to visit it primarily for the gorgeous Fort Ransom State Park.
The park is year-round and is extra cozy this time of year.
Winter camping is available through reservations in their cabins and yurts, which make for a perfect weekend winter getaway.
The yurts are perfectly warm and comfortable, and some are big enough for the whole family to stay in.
What really makes Fort Ransom and the park a winter wonderland is all of the winter activities available. If you love snowmobiling, you're in luck. The park offers great places to snowmobile through the hills and trees.
This year they will also have a sledding hill for people of all ages to enjoy.
During special events you might even be able to grab a ride on a horse drawn carriage or sleigh through the gorgeous white scenery.
In town you can grab a bite to eat at The Lunchbox Eatery. If you go on New Years Eve you can get a fantastic five-course meal with everything from crab chowder to seared elk from a local elk farm just a few miles away in Fort Ransom.
No matter what you like to do in the winter, Fort Ransom is a great place to do it. The possibilities are endless with options like cross-country skiing, sledding, snowmobiling, or simply staying cozy by the fire.
