When people travel to North Dakota they usually go to places like Fargo for shopping or to Medora for all the touristy things you can do there, but there are more places within the state that deserve some attention. This town in particular should be getting way more visitors than it does, and here's why:
Kenmare, North Dakota was founded in 1897 and still holds that older charm today.
Kenmare is a town in Ward County with a population of just above 1,000 residents. It is sometimes referred to as the Snow Goose Capitol of North Dakota and even has an annual GooseFest to celebrate this.
Despite its small town size, there is plenty to see and do here that makes for a memorable visit.
Even though Kenmare isn't usually labeled as one of the top tourist destinations in the state, it is highly underrated. The Kenmare Theater in the downtown is just the start of the great places this town has to offer.
The town takes pride in its history and origins.
Kenmare is home to one of North Dakota's only Danish Mills, shown above in the park.
Kenmare also has other attractions that can delight anyone of any age.
The V & R Toy Museum in Kenmare is one of the only toy museums in North Dakota and has an impressive collection of toy trains, tractors, cars, and more that could impress anyone - not just kids.
Another key feature of the town is the Pioneer Village.
This village has antique buildings portraying early North Dakota towns including a bank, schoolhouse, and more.
Each building even has all the antique features inside that make it true to life and fascinating to see.
And last but not least, Kenmare is also located in an absolutely beautiful area of North Dakota's nature.
The Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge is located near Kenmare and has plenty of gorgeous trails and scenic, natural settings to see.
There is so much more to see and do in Kenmare, and you can learn more about it right here. It is truly a one of a kind town that is perfect for a day trip!
