North Dakota is probably one of the best kept secrets in America when it comes to places to visit. Most people would pass it by as a flyover state and never realize how many amazing things there are to see here. Here are some of the top hidden gems in the Peace Garden State that most people don't even realize are here:
1. This hidden structure that is the only true castle in the state.
Long since abandoned but still standing strong, the Coghlan Castle is over a century old and is the only true "castle" to ever be built here.
2. An amazing restaurant hidden inside an old video store.
You wouldn't expect such tasty food to come from a deli attached to a video store, but Wahpeton Video has it! This fantastic gem serves up fresh food every day, and it's delicious. Definitely one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" type places.
3. The secret garden and sculpture walk.
Tucked away in the lovely town of Mayville, North Dakota is a delightful garden and sculpture walk. It has multiple sections and features both local and national artists. This place is perfect for a picnic on a nice day.
4. A remote, hidden resort in North Dakota that'll take you away from it all.
A vacation at the Coteau Des Praries Lodge will truly take you miles away from it all. It's grand, it's beautiful, and it has everything you need for an unforgettable stay.
5. North Dakota's only lift bridge and railroad tunnel.
These abandoned structures were built decades ago for the railroad. Despite being completed, they were never used and now sit untouched. There is a foot path you can take across the bridge and through the tunnel... if you dare. It's pretty creepy but awesome at the same time.
6. An epic indoor waterpark that is the perfect year-round destination.
North Dakota isn't exactly the capital of waterparks, but we do have this amazing indoor waterpark most people don't know about. It doesn't have to be summer here to be able to enjoy the lazy river, slides, and pools.
7. The little slice of paradise in North Dakota you'll want to visit.
The Turtle Mountains in northern North Dakota hold some of the most scenic, breathtaking views in the entire state. With tons of lakes, ponds, and wetlands surrounded by heavily wooded areas, you get truly stunning shots like this. Camping, boating, fishing, hiking, and other activities are very popular here for a good reason.

There is only one natural waterfall in North Dakota, created by an underground spring, and it's located in the Sheyenne National Forest near Valley City, North Dakota. A hike through this scenic wooded valley will take you right to it. It is as tranquil as it gets!
9. The state park that'll make you feel like you've found the state's best kept secret.
North Dakota has quite a few fantastic state parks to visit, but this one is like discovering a hidden oasis. Situated along some of the last untouched stretches of the Missouri River, it has everything you need for a memorable visit.
