In my last list we covered the most beautiful, charming small towns. North Carolina has a lot of beautiful places, making it hard to narrow down only ten. So I wanted to give recognition to some more absolutely beautiful towns (and cities) you can find in North Carolina.
1. Southport
While Southport is part of the Wilmington Metropolitan area this quaint town has an energy of its own. Located on the beautiful Cape Fear River, residents enjoy waterfront dining, strolls through a charming downtown, and coastal living at a reasonable price.
2. Asheville
While Asheville is clearly a city, it's beauty deserves a spot on any list of most beautiful places in North Carolina. Residents enjoy eclectic culture, mountain views, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and a lively arts community. Asheville is great for outdoor recreation, live music, and food!
3. Waynesville
West of Asheville, tucked away in breathtaking mountains you'll find Waynesville. This quaint town has a buzzing main street and the beautiful Lake Junaluska. Residents enjoy having the 'city' close while keeping a small town feel.
4. Wilmington
Another city to make the list is Wilmington. Residents of Wilmington have the beach just a short drive away but the history of this riverside town keeps the beauty rich and alive.
5. Edenton
The beautiful, charming town of Edenton will make you feel as if you've stepped back in time. The fairly low population of just above 5,000 means you'll get a small town feel in a beautiful location along the Albermarle Sound.
6. Tryon
Birthplace of Nina Simone...the arts are still very much alive in this small town. With a population of just over 1,000 residents enjoy equestrian activities, outdoor recreation, and WINE made right in town. Nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains, this small town is a beautiful secret.
7. Winston-Salem
Another city to make the list, Camel City is moving away from its tobacco legacy and more to a brimming 'cool' factor. Between Old Salem, a bustling arts district, and lively nightlife, Winston-Salem is a growing city putting its name on the map. Residents enjoy beautiful, hilly greenery, lush walking trails, and the mountains are only a quick drive away.
8. Mount Airy
Not too far from Winston you'll find the cute town of Mount Airy. It's ok if you call it Mayberry...Andy Griffith's legacy is very much alive here in this small town. Stop by Snappy Lunch for a delicious meal then take a short drive to hike or enjoy mountainside scenery.

9. Swansboro
Not many residents can boast that their downtown is this beautiful and quaint. Swansboro is a vacation in itself. With a population of only 2,000 this charming town is a well-kept secret!
10. Washington
It seems that the coastal towns and the mountain towns are battling it out for final slot...but I had to give this one to the beautiful town of Washington. Known as 'Little Washington' this town of 9,000 or so residents is located on the Pamlico River. Washington has found itself on national lists for most beautiful and 'coolest' places to live.
