Way up north where you'll find nothing but mountains and spectacular places to relax, there are handfuls of charming towns that you'll love to visit. You already know about popular destinations like Lake Placid and Old Forge, but there's one more town you should make a point to explore that may have fallen under your radar.
Head up to the Adirondacks and in Essex County you'll discover the beautiful town of Elizabethtown.
Home to just over 1,000 residents, the small town is just a half-hour away from destinations like Ausable Chasm and Lake Placid.
Surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Adirondacks, in town you'll find natural wonders like the Bouquet River.
Flowing along the river you'll find one of the most popular destinations in town, Split Rock Falls.
Featuring two major drops that total roughly 70-feet in height, the falls can be found just off of Route 9 and is a popular spot to cool off during the summer.
A leisurely town to visit, each year Elizabethtown hosts an annual car show where you can find your favorite antique cars on display for you to view.
Those who are looking to learn more about the area's fascinating past can visit the town's former school building, now home to the Adirondack History Center Museum!
An inexpensive and rewarding place to check out, the museum has lots of intriguing exhibits to check out and even features its own Colonial Garden that was created back in 1956.
While it's nice to take an adventure in town, one of our favorite laid-back activities is to visit the Adirondack Farmers Market that's held in town behind the museum now through October 6th on Fridays from 9AM to 1PM.
If you manage to control yourself from filling up at the Farmers Market, you'll want to stop by the Adirondack's oldest tavern, the Deer's Head Inn.
The historic restaurant dates back to 1808 and not only has an incredible menu, but also is rumored to have some famous ghosts haunting its halls.
If you find yourself falling in love with Elizabethtown and want to extend your stay, embrace the Adirondack lifestyle and go camping at Lincoln Pond Campsite.
In town you can find Bed & Breakfast locations that will charm the socks right off of you. But those who are looking to dive into the outdoors and see what the Adirondacks are all about should set up camp at the Lincoln Pond Campsites. The campground has canoe, kayak and rowboat rentals available for those who are interested in getting out on the water and even has a beautiful beach that's worth checking out.
