Up north where you're surrounded by beautiful lakes, mountains and forests, this gem of our Adirondack Park is waiting for you to come and take a visit!
Home to a population of roughly 5,000 residents, the small town of Saranac Lake can be found up in both Essex and Franklin Counties.
The small town primarily sits along the shores of Lake Flower, while also sitting along the shores of smaller bodies of water like Moody Pond and Turtle Pond.
Make your way through the heart of town and you'll find streets lined with local businesses and smiling faces of residents who are nothing short of pleased to be living here.
A favorite spot to visit on Main Street is the Saranac Lake Community Store, a shopping destination that was created by local residents in order to fight off big-box stores like Wal-Mart from coming into town.
Explore other streets in town and you'll eventually stumble up on the Adirondack Carousel, a hand-carved carousel made up of over twenty different animals that you can find in the Adirondacks!
If you aren't from around here and are looking for a place to stay so you can take the time to fully explore Saranac Lake, you'll love discovering charming B&B's here like the Porcupine Inn.
And when you find yourself feeling hungry, you'll be happy to find delicious restaurants like the Left Bank Cafe in town that will quench any hunger you were previously feeling before walking through their doors.
Another place your taste buds will love, you might remember Donnelly's Ice Cream from our recent Mouthwatering Ice Cream Road Trip! Open during the summer, the ice cream stand features a new flavor of ice cream each day it's open.
If for some reason you can't find what you're looking for in town, it won't be the worst thing to have to venture out to other nearby areas. This region is made up of nothing but scenic drives that will keep you feeling peaceful!
But one of the most exciting things about this town is that each year right along Lake Flower and River Street, the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival brings a unique Ice Palace to life.
Happening this year from February 2nd through the 11th, the town takes ice right out of the lake to create a different themed ice palace each winter.
But it's more than just an epic Ice Palace! The Winter Carnival creates tons of other outdoor activities that involve smaller jaw-dropping ice sculptures and snow-filled fun.
