A scenic attraction that's only open from June until October, Whiteface Veterans Memorial Highway is a gem of Essex County.
A total of eight miles long from start to finish, one of the best scenic drives in New York will last roughly 20 minutes until you reach the top.
Winding up along New York's fifth tallest mountain, the highway gives you constant views of the Adirondacks and our High Peaks.
The highway is surrounded by the beautiful Adirondack forest, taking you away from it all to where only beautiful views and memorable moments live.
While making your way to the end of the road, you'll discover nine different designated pull off spots and overlooks where you can take a moment to hang out and enjoy the scenery.
The road rises over 2,300 feet, giving you the luxury of not having to actually climb all the way up one of New York's High Peaks to reach such an amazing view of the mountains.
Before you know it you'll reach the historic tollhouse that was built back in 1934, where you'll pay a fee to drive up along the rest of the road unless you come equipped with your Olympic Sites Passport!
If you decide to take advantage of what lies at the end of this scenic road, you can leave your car in the designated parking area and make your way to Whiteface Mountain's summit.
Giving you the option of hiking up along the famous stone staircase or walking through a tunnel and then taking an elevator to the top, New York's made one of it's tallest mountains incredibly accessible for a variety of visitors!
