While it may often feel like trains are a thing of the past, there are actually handfuls of train-themed attractions right here in the Empire State. There are so many in fact, that we decided to plan out an entire adventure for you so you could see some of them! Giving you a road trip full of train rides, train stations that have been restored into restaurants, train hotels and incredible museums, you'll be excited to discover all that you'll find along this fun-filled getaway.

1. First you'll head out to the town of Clyde to experience the Finger Lakes Live Steamers.
Let your childhood dreams live on by riding a train out in the Finger Lakes in a much more whimsical way. Hopping onboard takes on a whole new meaning here, with the Finger Lakes Live Steamers giving guests the opportunity to ride large scale model trains. 2. Next, grab a bite to eat at the Seneca Harbor Station in Watkins Glen.
Right along the southern shore of Seneca Lake in the scenic town of Watkins Glen is an old train station that's been restored beautifully and now operates as a tasty restaurant. The Seneca Harbor Station was originally built in 1876 and has a gorgeous view of the water from where you'll dine. To find out more, click here.
3. Afterwards you can settle in for the night at Avoca's Caboose Motel.
A hidden treasure in the small town of Avoca, the Caboose Motel is exactly what it sounds like. Made up of restored cabooses that date back to 1916, those who spend the night here will get to stay in a converted caboose that features modern amenities. To find out more, click here.
4. Begin a new day with a trip to the wonderful Hornell Erie Depot Museum.
Preserving the history of Hornell's railroad industry, the Hornell Erie Depot Museum is a place that all train lovers will enjoy. Full of fascinating items and pieces of history, the museum has a model train track, historic larger scale model trains, memorabilia from Hornell's railroad and so much that you'll love discovering. 5. Enjoy one of our favorite railways and stop in to see the Arcade and Attica Railroad.
We're spoiled in New York to have so many scenic train rides that are worth taking. But one of our absolute favorite railways to spend the day on is Arcade and Attica's. You'll find it impossible to miss this attraction in town, alluring visitors with its eye-catching orange paint splashed everywhere. 6. End your adventure with one last train ride at the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum in Rush.
What you might not know about this destination is that it's actually home to the largest collection of historic trains in New York State! Way to end the road trip with a big bang, huh? The museum is run by amazing volunteers who help keep history alive and give us the chance to take rides on vintage diesel trains.
