This fall, take a trip to a small town in New York that is bursting with charm. We are talking about Red Hook, New York, which is the home of the hamlet of Annandale-on-Hudson, which itself is the home of the legendary liberal arts college Bard. Within the town of Red Hook, there are plenty of great dining and recreation options, and now that the weather is about to turn crisp, we couldn’t think of a better way to spend the weekend. Start the day at Greig Farm, which is a pick-your-own farm in Hudson Valley that has been in operation since 1942. They are currently picking blueberries and blackberries, which come in at $7 a pound. Don't be afraid to load up, and don't forget to check out the gift shop.

Hungry? Stop by Historic Village Diner for a bite inside of a classic early-20th century railroad dining car. For brunch, we recommend their fresh homemade Belgian waffles. For something more savory, try their classic patty melt, which is served on grilled rye bread.

Since 1850, Poet’s walk park has been “inspiring poets and non-writers alike.” The park is a designed area that features a number of “outdoor rooms” divided by trees and stone walls. The park is rumored to inspire Washington Irving’s creation of “Rip Van Winkle.” There's a lot of history here.

For dinner, how about a little pizza? Lucoli makes clean, delicious Italian food served the old way. Their brick oven pizzas are remarkably great. After a full day of activity in Red Hook, it's the perfect way to wind down.

With advance approval, visitors can check out most of the grounds. While in the Hudson Valley area, why not check out this stunning state park, which gives visitors amazing views of the region.
