When I cover quirky New Jersey towns, I typically mention our most popular...Haddonfield, Asbury Park, Ocean City... But Haddonfield has a neighbor that deserves some attention, too.
Collingswood is a little town (just under two square miles) with a lot going on.
It's just six miles outside of Philadelphia, but there's no need to leave the neighborhood for fun. If you wanted to, you could head to the big city, visit major attractions like the Battleship New Jersey and Adventure Aquarium in Camden, enjoy the small town charm of Haddonfield or shop Jersey-style at the Cherry Hill Mall. But, you'll never be bored in Collingswood.
It's got a great arts scene.
Home to the Perkins Center For The Arts, visitors can register for a wide range of workshops and classes. From painting, to sculpture to music, there's so much to learn. You can also experience the arts - Perkins Center offers a variety of exhibitions, concerts and performances. You'll also find The Factory, a community makerspace. If you can dream it, you can create it. For live music and theater, head to the Scottish Rite Auditorium.
And the dining scene is equally incredible.
If you read my articles often, you might be aware that I'm a little obsessed with The Pop Shop. A quirky eatery that's part old-school soda fountain and part modern dream come true, you'll love the creative dishes they serve up here. The menu is extensive but the pancakes and grilled cheese come highly recommended. Of course, The Pop Shop isn't the only spot in town worth checking out.Grooveground is a coffee bar, dessert bar and cafe that also doubles as gift and record shop. The Tortilla Press is a great spot for Mexican/American Fusion and The Kitchen Consigliere is an Italian eatery with a unique Jersey twist - it's owned by a former mobster. In the mood for a mouthwatering breakfast? Head to Sabrina's.
But, of course, there's more...
Devil's Creek Brewery offers tours, tastings and trivia nights. It's a great place to kick back with friends. If nature is your thing, visit Knight Park in the center of town. The town also hosts fantastic events, like the upcoming Porchfest. On September 23rd, stroll around town and enjoy artists and musicians, putting on shows on their porches. There are over 50 community members participating.
Have you been to Collingswood? What New Jersey town do you think is the quirkiest?
