When summer comes, many of us will be heading down the shore (or to the beach, if you live there). New Jersey's beaches are among the best in the country, but that's not just my opinion. Many of our shore towns have garnered national attention and attract tourists from all over the world. The Travel Chanel labeled Cape May as one of the most idyllic resort villages in the country and Asbury Park was selected by multiple publications as the coolest beach town in the WORLD. Our beaches can't be beat and New Jersey has a shore town for everyone. If you're looking for a family-friendly beach, make your way to The Wildwoods.
The Wildwoods is used as a collective term for the four communities located on Wildwood Island that have Wildwood as part of the municipality name — the Borough of Wildwood Crest, City of Wildwood, Borough of West Wildwood and the City of North Wildwood — together with Diamond Beach, a portion of Lower Township situated on the island.
The town may be best known for its Doo-Wop architecture. Wildwood is home to over 200 motels, built during the Doo-Wop era of the 1950s and 1960s. There's even a Doo-Wop museum!
But the area has more to offer than architecture...TripAdvisor recently named The Wildwoods one of the 25 Best Family Beach Vacations to Take with the Kids in the USA.
When you visit, it's easy to see why. There's a colorful boardwalk with shops, food stands, and plenty of arcades and amusement rides.
Popular Wildwood attractions include Morey's Piers Amusement Park, Splash Zone Waterpark, Seaport Aquarium, Breakfast In The Sky, and the Boardwalk Mall.
When it comes to dining, you'll find plenty of kid-friendly foods. There's water ice, curly fries, funnel cake, pizza, and plenty more along the boardwalk. You'll also find more upscale eats at places like Cattle 'n Clover Irish Pub and Steak House and Jersey Girl Bar & Restaurant.
Best of all, the beach is free — a rarity in New Jersey. The town was also listed among the Garden State's most affordable beach destinations.
Have you ever been to Wildwood? What do you love most about the town? I was lucky enough to visit several years ago and fell in love with the arcades, architecture, and one-of-a-kind aerial breakfast. To learn more about that, click here.
