Whether it's the holidays that bring out your sweet tooth or if it's more of a year-round affliction, you'll be happy to know that there are plenty of places in New Hampshire to satisfy that craving. We particularly love the many chocolate shops that can be found here. To enjoy them, we suggest making a day of it by hopping in the car and road-tripping to some of the best New Hampshire chocolates! Here is a complete map and driving directions - you can hop on the tour from your own starting point.
1. Chutters, Littleton
This special spot has been delighting locals and visitors since the 19th century! Guinness World Records calls this the "World's Longest Candy Counter" and you'll be amazed at all the sugary, chocolatey sweets it holds! Find them at 43 Main St, Littleton.
Check out Chutters and its massive candy counter in this video from EJs World:
2. Granite State Candy Shoppe, Concord
This old-fashioned candy shop has been in operation since 1927! Over all those years they've perfected the art of chocolate, but they also make a mean maple candy! Check them out at 13 Warren St., Concord.
3. Dancing Lion Chocolate, Manchester
This spot isn't like the others on the list. It's run by a former physicist who followed a calling to become a master chocolatier. Richard Tango-Lowy creates one-of-a-kind chocolate concoctions that are sometimes only available for one day! You'll love the Mayan drinking chocolate for one of the most chocolatey experiences you'll ever have. Check the out at 917 Elm St., Manchester.
4. Van Otis Chocolates, Manchester
Van Otis has been satisfying sweet teeth (sweet tooths?) for over 85 years! During that time they've created a shop that's worth as many trips as you can make. Time your visit with one of their chocolate making classes and be sure to take one of their factory tours. They're located at 341 Elm St., Manchester.
Watch this video talking about Van Otis Chocolates' history and all of the fine chocolates they have crafted over the years:
5. Pearls Candy & Nuts, Windham
Vintage candy, old-fashioned confections and lots of heart make this place a must-stop. You'll find walls of portioned chocolate treats along with fun candies from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. You can find them at 58 Range Rd, Windham.
6. Byrne & Carlson Chocolatier, Portsmouth
What sets this chocolate shop apart from the rest is the focus on ingredients. There's nothing but the best in these beautiful bars. Try the truffles! They're some of the most delicious around. Find them at 121 State St., Portsmouth.
7. The Old Country Store and Museum, Moultonborough
This shop has the distinction of being one of the oldest surviving businesses in America - and boy are we glad they're still around. While you can find plenty of general store-type merchandise we recommend stopping in for their candy and chocolate supply! Visit them at 1011 Whittier Hwy, Moultonborough.
8. The Bavarian Chocolate Haus, North Conway
This wonderful store could sell anything and we'd still want to visit just to walk into this quirky old house! But, lucky for us they actually hold some of the best chocolate in the state. This German spot in the White Mountains offers hand-dipped chocolate and delicious hot fudge. Find them at 2483 White Mountain Highway, North Conway.
