The world is very often a busy place and it tends to hold us tight each day. It's not always easy but sometimes we need to intentionally slow down and take in our natural surroundings for a recharge. I try to make an effort to do this every day. One of the best ways to do this is to get outside into nature at one of the many New Hampshire botanical gardens around the state. Here's one that you may not know about and it's completely free to visit.
Maple Hill Gardens is located at the main campus of Beaver Brook Association in Hollis. The gardens are open daily from April through October.
The farm dates back to the 19th century and was named for the maple trees that were planted in front of the main house.
The gardens of the farm were created in 1981 and were expanded in later years into what can be visited today.
The farm features 13 themed gardens, a natural play area for kids, picnic areas, and a wildflower walking trail.
Each of the gardens is quite varied. Herbs, pollinator plants, fragrance plants, trees, wines, and many different varieties of flowers are well-represented here.
A group of dedicated volunteer maintainers called the Maple Hill Gardeners tend to the gardens throughout the year.
In addition to wandering the gardens on your own, guided garden tours and presentations are also available via reservations.
If you can't travel to get out into the mountains for some time in nature, a visit to Maple Hill Gardens is the next best thing. Learn more by visiting the Maple Hill Gardens website and by following Beaver Brook Association on Facebook.
Taking a walk in nature is one of the best things we can do for minds and bodies and visiting any one of the many New Hampshire botanical gardens is a great way to get started.
