Just about anywhere you go in New Hampshire will have you meeting nice people. Whether it's the people who run the mom and pop shops in the small towns or the ones you meet on the street while strolling the streets of places like Portsmouth, there's a friendly face waiting to say hello. But where should you go when you're looking for an extra dose of kindness? Check out this town for the day and leave feeling great!
Keene, located in Cheshire County, is one of the most lovely towns in New Hampshire. And it also happens to be one of the most friendly.
The town is home to Keene State and Antioch University New England, which means you'll find a great mix of people from all over the country. It also means there are lots of differing viewpoints.
You can't have a friendly town without a farmers' market and the one here is fantastic! The Farmers' Market of Keene is open all year and you can find it indoors during the winter.
Beyond just the colleges, we love the shops, restaurants and entertainment here. That includes one of our favorite vegetarian and vegan restaurants, Country Life Vegetarian Restaurant.
In addition to great food, you'll also find charming shops like The Toadstool Bookshop, which also has locations in Nashua and Peterborough. Of course we like to think the one in Keene is the friendliest.
Don't forget to enjoy a local sugar house. One of the best is nearby Stuart & John's.
And once you've taken in the fun of the town all day, be sure to stop by the Colonial Theater for a show at night! There's a lot of history here so be sure to arrive a bit early to check out the lobby.
And at the end of the night, sit back knowing that you've experienced one of the most friendly places in America.
