There's a lot to love about the fall season in Nevada. Brilliant fall colors, crisp weather, warm mugs of pumpkin spice deliciousness - it's hard not to enjoy this time of year. Many of Nevada's towns shine brightest during this seasonal transition and, according to a recent list MSN, Genoa is one of the best! This historic town in the Carson River Valley is a wonderful place to visit year-round, but we think you'll particularly enjoy what it has to offer during autumn.
MSN recently published a list of "Best Small US Cities and Towns for Travelers Who Love The Fall" and we saw a very familiar name: Genoa, Nevada! We can't blame 'em for including this small town. This charming community shines year-round, but especially during fall.
Tucked away in the Carson River Valley, Genoa's most famously known as Nevada's oldest town. Established in 1851, it was the very first permanent white settlement in the state. Today, the charming community is home to just 900 or so residents, but it's still filled with historic charm and lots to see.
This region of Nevada is absolutely beautiful during the fall season and Genoa is no exception. During September and October, the town comes alive with shades of autumn. It helps that the town is rich with colorful trees, accentuated by the forest-covered mountain slopes that tower high over the small town.
If you've been thinking of planning a day trip to Genoa, this time of year is perfect to do so. You can spend the day exploring everything the town has to offer, including various mom-and-pop shops, eateries, and boutiques. Nevada's oldest bar, the Genoa Bar & Saloon, is a must-visit!
Of course, you'll want to carve out plenty of time to get to know the town's history. It seems like hints of the past can be spotted wherever you turn. Mormon Station State Historic Park is smack dab in the middle of town and pays homage to the area's very first trading post.
There's also no shortage of recreational opportunities in and around Genoa. Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevadas are just to the west of town. Hiking, biking, fishing, and local wildlife are abundant in the Carson River Valley.
A hidden gem outside of Lake Tahoe, Genoa's historic charm and promise of adventure attracts visitors no matter the season. Now's a better time than ever to plan a trip to this amazing little town in Nevada!
