The town of Caliente was once called ‘Calientes’, however, when the post office arrived in the area, the town lost the last syllable, giving it the name it is known for today.
Caliente is just over a two-hour drive northeast of Las Vegas.
Caliente, Nevada was established in 1901 on land called Culverwell Ranch, owned by the Culverwell brothers. The Union Pacific Railroad was completed in 1905, drawing people in.
By the time the train depot was completed in 1923, Caliente’s population had reached over 5,000 residents! The beautiful, mountainside town is filled with local history. Stop by the many shops and eateries to explore historic and scenic Caliente.

Between your dips at the local hot springs, wander through Caliente towards the Railroad Depot. Built in 1923, this historic place was once used as a busy train station and hotel until dwindling use by the 1950s. It was officially given to the city of Caliente in 1970.
Today, the former Caliente Railroad Depot houses a city hall, an art gallery, and an impressive library. Visit the nearby Caliente Heritage Box Car Museum for an up-close look at life in this historic Nevada town.
