Located in Beaverhead County, the little city of Dillon is a pretty quiet place to call home. It also happens to be wildly underrated. It may be small in size, but there's definitely something for everyone in the area.
Dillon was founded as a railroad town in 1880, and if you're a history buff, you'll love the way it looks.
Some of the buildings in the historic district date back to the late 1800s, and it still has the look of an old mining town.
No one will deny that Dillon is charming.
But most Montanans might be surprised to know how much there is to do here.
The Beaverhead County Museum is a fantastic place to learn about local history.
They're open Monday-Saturday from 9-5, and you'll see everything from a natural history exhibit to an authentic homesteader's cabin.
For a small town, the shopping is surprisingly good.
Knock About offers a great selection of women's clothing, and between its books and its speciality gifts, The Bookstore is legendary.
Bannack State Park is nearby, a must-see for all Montanans.
You can visit this well-preserved ghost town any day of the week.
There are plenty of hiking trails in the area, like the scenic 6-mile Sawtooth Lake Trail.
Dillon is also a great home base for those that love cross-country and downhill skiing, fly fishing, and world class hunting.
And there are definitely some delicious dining options here.
Sink your teeth into a burger from Papa T's and you'll see what we mean.
Dillon is definitely an underrated gem. And we happen to think it's perfectly sized, just like these Montana towns.
