When was the last time you got out of town for a weekend - or even for just a day? Luckily, there are plenty of amazing places to explore right here in Montana. We'd like to give a shout-out to one of our favorite small towns in Montana, the ridiculously charming Old West town of Augusta. If you've never been to this little piece of paradise, make this the year you check it out. Where is Augusta, Montana? You'll find it in a remote location in the foothills of the Flathead Mountains about an hour west of Great Falls. Let's explore one of the best small towns in Montana.
There's not much to the town of Augusta, and honestly, that's a big part of its appeal.
The tiny town, which has a population of 316, is located in Lewis and Clark County about 55 miles west of Great Falls.
Augusta is a gateway to the Bob Marshall Wilderness and the adjoining Scapegoat Wilderness, so it's often a stopping point for hikers, backpackers, and hunters.
However, it also makes a fantastic day trip destination for anyone who loves small-town life.
Allen's Manix Store, otherwise known as The Trading Post, has been a part of the community since 1902.
Owned and operated by the Allen family for over 45 years, this place has a little bit of everything.... from groceries to guns. Their motto is "If we don't have it, you don't need it."
Make sure to stop by Latigo & Lace which is open sporadically, but is a real treat when it's open.
This charming gallery and shop is owned by a small group of diverse women who bring a wide variety of treasures to the shelves.
Hungry? Augusta has several charming bars and grills and cafes to enjoy a hearty meal.
The Buckhorn Bar is a longtime local favorite.
If you enter the Buckhorn Bar and smell the BBQ, stick around and enjoy a steak or a cheeseburger.
You'll typically see some friendly locals enjoying a meal or a beer, so you may even make a new friend.
Augusta is a charming little community surrounded by breathtaking beauty.
It's one of the Treasure State's most underrated small towns, and we're lucky to have it right in our own backyard.
