Why leave the state to go on vacation when Montana has so many incredible destinations? The next time you have a few days off, try choosing a relaxing "staycation" instead. The places on this list have two things in common: You don’t have to leave the property once you’ve arrived (if you don’t want to) and you don’t have to leave Montana to reach them.
1. North Forty Resort
The North Forty is named for the 40 forested acres that surround it. It’s located in the Flathead Valley, and it’s a year-round recreational destination. The comfortable cabins offer gas fireplaces and full kitchens, and outdoor picnic tables allow you to dine al fresco.
2. The Lodge at Whitefish Lake

3. Double Arrow Resort
Seeley Lake’s Double Arrow Resort is open all year and offers everything from golfing on the 18-hole course to horseback riding. The rooms are rustic but clean and comfortable, and the onsite restaurant, Seasons, offers the only fine dining in the area.
4. Fairmont Hot Springs
Fairmont Hot Springs has recently renovated, and it’s now even more beautiful than before. Enjoy the hot springs and outdoor pool, complete with a water slide for children and kids at heart. Aside from soaking and swimming, guests can workout at the onsite gym, play golf, enjoy spa treatments, and sip cocktails at the outdoor pool bar. One weekend won’t seem like enough here.
5. Triple Creek Ranch
Tucked away in the beautiful Darby area, Triple Creek Ranch offers an all inclusive experience. Blending luxurious amenities and natural beauty, they offer a chance at true relaxation as well as fun activities like fly fishing for those that desire them. There’s even a beautiful rooftop bar where guests can watch the sunset with a beer or glass of wine in hand.
6. Howlers Inn Bed & Breakfast and Wolf Sanctuary
Imagine being welcomed to your destination by the song of your own wolf pack. Howlers Inn, which is located in Bozeman’s beautiful Bridger Canyon, is a truly unique destination. It’s got a play area for children, plenty of amenities for the adults, and two enclosures for the wolves who have joined the owners. The wolves are all captive-bred and can’t be released into the wild, and guests are allowed to view and photograph them.
7. Boulder Hot Springs
If you haven’t been to this historic hot spot, pay Boulder Hot Springs a visit. The inn sits on 300 acres of peaceful meadows and forest, and the air is clean and pure. It has outdoor and indoor pools, and the staff will help you plan hikes and other recreational activities.
8. The Shire of Montana
Do you and your other half (or best friend or sibling or anyone silly in your life) desire a getaway like no other? A Montana couple has devoted a lot of time to creating the perfect Hobbit House, the Shire of Montana. Located 8 miles southeast of Trout Creek, this place has all the comforts of home, including a designer kitchen and an HD-TV so you can watch their copy of The Hobbit.
9. Bonanza Creek Country Guest Ranch
This Martinsdale ranch has been around since the 1870s, and it’s the perfect place to go if you’re seeking seclusion and comfort. The lodge has a dining room, a laundry room, and a large family room stocked with games, and the guests stay in one of the four onsite cabins. The ranch owners run 1,500 head of cattle on 25,000 beautiful acres.
10. Wilderness Club
Eureka is a small town located just a few miles south of the Canadian border, and that’s where you’ll find this resort. But don’t let the words "wilderness club" fool you—this place might be secluded, but it’s definitely luxurious. The onsite golf course keeps most guest busy, and the Wilderness Grille serves three meals a day. There’s even a water park with a water slide, splash pad, cabanas, and an 18-person hot tub.
