We know how to throw a good party in Montana, especially a festival. Some of our larger events like Sweet Pea and the Testy Fest get national attention. But every year, our small towns host dozens of celebrations that even some Montanans don't know about. Put these festivities on your calendar for this year or next.

1. Whoop-Up Trail Days, Conrad

For over 75 years, Conrad has hosted their annual Whoop-Up Trail Days in June. The event kicks off with a rodeo, children's parade and lots of music. This year's dates are unconfirmed, but it's typically held the first weekend in June.

2. The Pirate Party, Haugan

Pirates in Montana? Every summer, the small town of Haugan hosts an annual Pirate Party, a music festival like no other. Celebrating the arts, electronic music and community, this is a chance for creative Montanans to come together and dance. This year's festival is July 21-24 at the 50,000 Silver Dollar Bar.

3. Flathead Lake Blues Festival, Polson

You may have heard of Polson's annual cherry festival, but they also host an amazing blues festival on the third weekend in August.

4. Scobey Pioneer Days

Thanks to the Daniels County Museum & Pioneer Town, you can always see what life was like in Montana's pioneer days. And every year on the last weekend in June, the Pioneer Days festival entertains locals with the Dirty Shame Show, five family oriented internationally known variety shows starring the Dirty Shame Belles and the Dixieland Band.

5. Rockin' The Rivers Music Festival, Three Forks

The 2017 dates for this high-energy music festival are August 11-13 with a pre-party on the 10th. This is a great chance to rock out to local musicians as well as rock legends.

6. Darby Logger Days

Set in the stunning Bitterroot Mountains, the annual Darby Logger Days embodies the kind of good old-fashioned small town Montana fun that can be tough to find these days. This year's festival is July 21-22, and it's sure to be a good time.

7. Lewistown Chokecherry Festival

Every summer, groupings of the little green berries known as chokecherries ripen all around Lewisville. And on the first Saturday following Labor Day, the community gathers to enjoy chokecherry dishes and encourage local tourism and supporting local businesses.

8. Deer Lodge Territorial Days

Every June, Deer Lodge's Territorial Days bring a parade of classic cars to the downtown streets. It's a weekend of parades, a tractor show, games, prizes and lots of local fun.
