Billings is Montana's largest city. But with a population of around 109,000, that really isn't saying much, especially when you realize there are well over 600,000 people in Portland, OR, and 226,000 people living in Boise, ID.
But to us, Billings is a pretty big city. And with that title come some obvious perks, like having some great shopping options. If you've never checked out all the shops in the downtown Billings area, you owe it to yourself to explore.
Billings has a rich railroad history. In fact, it was named for Northern Pacific Railway president Frederick H. Billings.
The city was founded in 1882, and it was once home to the Crow people.
Billings was nicknamed the "Magic City" because of its rapid growth from its railroad days.
The city has several shopping districts and malls, but we happen to think the best shops are downtown.
The Cricket Clothing Company was established in 1983, and they've been marketing to local women ever since.

If you need a good read in your life, stop by This House of Books, an independently owned bookstore.
This store has followed a cooperative model since its 2016 opening.
