To say that Polebridge is a "blink and you’ll miss it" kind of town is an understatement. The entire community consists of a handful of houses, some cabins, a hostel, and a few ranches. But between the irresistible temptation of the Polebridge Mercantile and the fact that this spot sits a mile from an entrance to Glacier National Park, most Montanans can’t help but pull over on their way to or from the park. Do you think this tiny community could be the best small town in Montana?
Polebridge is home to around 14 people and the stunning Bowman Lake.
The town remains entirely electricity-free.
The “hub” of this village consists of the Polebridge Mercantile and the neighboring Northern Lights Saloon, both of which are powered by generators.
The Polebridge Mercantile is legendary, and this one-stop shop is famous among locals and tourists for its freshly baked pastries and sandwiches.
The Merc was built in 1914 by William Adair only four years after Glacier became a park.
The Northern Lights Saloon proves that no matter how small a town is in Montana, you’ll always find a bar.
But we don’t want to sell this place short. The Northern Lights serves fantastic food in a friendly atmosphere. They don’t have to be amazing since they’re the only restaurant around, but they are. They do close for the winter, so plan accordingly.
Imagine living a mere mile from Glacier.
Polebridge is the next best thing to living entirely off the grid.
