This 600-acre county park is the perfect destination for a one-stop, family-friendly summer day trip to Foristell, Missouri. Indian Camp Creek has so much to offer! The park is at the confluence of two large creeks with easy-to-access swimming holes and gravel bars, a splash pad, multiple playgrounds, a fishing lake, a boardwalk, hiking, frisbee golf, a historic cemetery, biking trails, a lookout tower, an old homestead, pavilions, and equestrian trails. Is this on your calendar yet?! This park is close to my house, so I’m lucky enough to get to visit it year-round.
Indian Camp Creek is less than an hour from St. Louis, making it a convenient day trip. I recommend you pack a lunch and plan to stay the whole day because there is so much to do. This park is in St. Charles County; because it is a county park, everything is FREE!
Start your adventure at the gigantic destination playground! The slides and array of climbing structures are the most notable features.
I’m including an aerial view because it is hard to capture and describe the vastness of the playground! It is near the fishing lake and boardwalk, with a pavilion nearby for shade and snack breaks. If you had older kids, you could send them off on a walk or a bike ride.
With features for kids of all ages, the playground includes high towers for the more adventurous and “rock” structures for younger children to climb.
The non-traditional playground structures will keep the kids entertained for hours!
Don’t miss the adorable aquatic animal sculptures, perfect for capturing memorable photos.
The playground also boasts a water feature and splash pad, which are perfect for cooling down during the warmer months. Additionally, smaller playgrounds scattered throughout the park mean there’s always a new place to explore, so be sure to “playground hop.” The major features of the park are all accessible by paved walking trails. However, you may want to drive to the different points to conserve some energy for swimming!
The park’s swimming holes are easily accessible via short woodland trails. For a lively experience, head to the swimming hole near the entrance by the bridge, which is popular with families, especially on weekends. For a bit more seclusion, drive further into the park. Park at the first lot past the cemetery and follow the Scenic Overlook signs. The shallow creek is generally clear and safe for kids, with little fish and crawdads adding to the fun – bring a net!
Put Indian Camp Creek on your list for fun adventures in Missouri! Summer is one of the best times to visit the park, but it is worth the trip no matter what time of year you visit. I love/appreciate the shaded hiking trails in summer. What is your favorite park to visit year-round? If you’re traveling through Missouri via Interstate 70 or 64, this park is easy to access, just 15 minutes north of where those two major highways converge, near Wentzville.
If you want to make this park a stopover on your summer family fun adventure, stay nearby at Fairfield Inn & Suites St. Louis West/Wentzville. It has a pool if the family hasn't had enough swim time!
