Warning: If you absolutely hate Christmas, I mean, really hate it, then you should definitely not read this list. But if you enjoy all the warmness that comes with the holiday season, then I encourage you to check out these small towns and big cities in Missouri who love to celebrate the holidays more than most.
1. Warrensburg
If you love Christmas and English literature, than this Christmas town is perfect for you. Every year, Warrensburg celebrates "Dickens Christmas." The main streets are decked with holiday decor and people dress up like characters from one of his most notable works, "A Christmas Carol."
2. Kansas City
From the Plaza Lights to the Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting, this city sure takes Christmas seriously. Don't forget to go ice skating in the Crown Center! Or see what's going on at Union Station, which will hold holidays events throughout the month.
3. Hermann
People visit all over the state to pick out their Christmas tree at Pea Ridge Forest. If you're looking for a gift, stop by the Annual Kristkindl Markt at Stone Hill, which takes place from December 2nd-3rd.
4. Branson
Check out the massive light displays at Silver Dollar City, or Christmas shop for a loved one at the Ozark Mountain Christmas Lights and Village. If you get tired of walking through this winter wonderland, than sit back, relax and enjoy one of their fantastic Christmas shows.
5. Kimmswick
The small town with the biggest celebrations! Aside from Apple Butter Festival and Strawberry Festival, Kimmswick knows how to throw down when it comes to Christmas. Enjoy horse-drawn carriages, carolers, an annual Christmas Cookie Walk and more when you visit this hidden gem.
6. Lee's Summit
This suburb outside of Kansas City is home to the Lee’s Summit Magic Tree, which is a celebratory landmark at I-470 and View High Drive.
7. St. Louis
St. Louis is a great place to visit year-round, but its Christmas celebrations really puts it on the map during the holiday season. The Anheuser-Busch Brewery doesn't hold back when it comes to decorating or hosting holiday beer tastings and visits with Santa. Visit Tilles Park or the Saint Louis Zoo for some of the best Christmas light displays in the state.
8. Springfield
To kick off the Festival of Lights, Springfield brought in the heavy hitters. I'm talking the mayor, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. Though the ceremony has passed, the lights are still up and visitors can enjoy free ice skating. Don't forget about the huge Christmas parade on December 10th!
9. Nevada
Lights at the Lake is a favorite holiday tradition here in Nevada. Just head over to Radio Spring Lake and drive through one of the best light displays in Missouri.
10. New Madrid
Take the whole family to the town's Christmas Parade on December 10th. After the parade, shop local, have a bite to eat, and then go on one of the Candlelight Tours that start at 6 pm at the Hunter-Dawson Home State Historic Site.
When it comes to Christmas in Missouri, even Scrooge can't turn down some of these fun holiday celebrations. Think your town has what it takes to be one of the best Christmas towns in Missouri? Let us know in the comments!
