It’s pretty much common knowledge that Mississippi is full of antebellum homes and other historic structures that are available for touring. But many don’t realize there’s a historic town just waiting to be explored. That’s right; an entire town. Known as Small Town, Mississippi, the one-of-a-kind attraction can be found in Jackson, and is an absolute must-visit. Take a look.
Don’t let the name fool you, the Agriculture and Forestry Museum in Jackson focuses on much more than farming.
The museum is home to several amazing exhibits, including Small Town, Mississippi.
A life-sized replica of a small Mississippi town from the past, the exhibit features a Main Street lined with historically-accurate buildings…
and plenty of interesting artifacts, like this old watering trough. A common sight in the past, the trough was originally located in front of the Old Capitol building.
Extremely realistic, Small Town, Mississippi is filled with businesses typical of the time period.
Every building features extensive details, painting a vivid picture of what life was once like.
Just like the exteriors, the interiors of the buildings are intricately decorated...
and include realistic scenes, allowing visitors to "see" the past for themselves.
Just like any rural town from the past, the exhibit includes a General Store.
Stocked with standard merchandise as well as souvenirs, the General Store is one of the most popular parts of the exhibit.
The picturesque chapel situated at the end of Main Street is another top spot in Small Town, Mississippi.
Its charming appearance and unique location have made the chapel a popular wedding venue.
