Crystal Springs, a historic small town in Mississippi, is better known as the "Tomatopolis." This friendly and picturesque place is renowned for its annual Tomato Festival, but this charming town is beautiful year-round. Here, residents and visitors celebrate the town's rich history, agricultural achievements, and community spirit. Crystal Springs' diverse attractions, from local eateries to beautiful parks, add to its unique appeal, making it an unforgettable destination in the heart of Mississippi.
Located just 26 miles south of Jackson, Crystal Springs is a fabulous little town to spend a day or two exploring.
Crystal Springs boasts a population that hovers around 5,000 residents, and don’t let the size of this tiny town fool you...there’s always something going on.
Like many small towns in Mississippi, Crystal Springs has a charming and thriving downtown area.
Crystal Springs' Main Street is always hosting something to bring the community together, and the Farmers Markets are not to be missed.
As you wander through the town, you can't help but notice all of the tomato sculptures...
...and that's because Crystal Springs is also known as the Tomatopolis of Mississippi!
The town was once a massive exporter of both tomatoes and cabbage, and celebrates their 'mater-lovin' history with the annual Tomato Festival every June.
Do yourself a favor and pick some up while you're in town.
Follow Crystal Springs' Main Street on Facebook to find out about upcoming community markets.
Crystal Springs is also big on the Blues scene, and a visit to the Robert Johnson Blues Museum is a must.
And it's also a stop on the Mississippi Blues Trail.
Of course, many visit Crystal Springs to experience the natural beauty of this charming town.
Chautauqua Park is a picture-perfect 74-acre park in Crystal Springs with plenty of trails and scenic spots to enjoy.
We've even covered it in the past as one of the most beautiful parks in Mississippi.
Naturally, all of that exploring is bound to work up an appetite, and you've got plenty of places to eat in Crystal Springs.
My recommendation is Creole Foods, a locally-owned restaurant in town with some of the best fried chicken you've ever had.
This fried chicken has earned the nickname "crack chicken" because of how good it is! There's often a line out the door, and that's how you know you're in the right spot.
After exploring Crystal Springs, you may want to check out some hotels in the area. Wisteria Inn in Crystal Springs is centrally located, offers spacious rooms, and this charming hotel has a unique history, too!
