The charming town of Two Harbors, Minnesota may just be the state's pie hotspot (with all due respect to the pie capital of Braham, of course). It's home to two of the most famous Minnesota pie shops, as well as a beloved local institution that definitely deserves a seat at the Two Harbors pie table. Looks like a pie tasting road trip to Two Harbors is in order!
1. Betty's Pies
Betty's Pies is located just a few minutes outside Two Harbors, along MN-61 on the way to Gooseberry Falls State Park. As its sign implies, Betty's Pies is pretty well known.
In fact, you could argue that it's the most renowned pie shop in the Land of 10,000 Lakes - and it's known well beyond the state. On a summer weekend, you'd be hard pressed to even get into Betty's parking lot.
In business for well over half a century, Betty's has built up its following by offering a wide-selection of fresh-baked pies. The shop sells its pies until they're gone, and then starts all over the next day.
For many folks, a stop at Betty's Pies is a requirement of - if not the actually reason for - any trip to the North Shore.
2. Rustic Inn Cafe
A little further along MN-61, closer to Gooseberry Falls in the unincorporated community of Castle Danger - but with a Two Harbors address - you'll find Rustic Inn Cafe.
Over the last couple decades, Rustic Inn has been giving Betty's Pies a run for its money. You could even say, in the minds of many, Betty's vs. Rustic is Minnesota's ultimate pie rivalry.
Rustic Inn Cafe also offers several fresh daily pie flavors from which to choose and has some offerings that are different from those you might find at Betty's.
Of course, we recommend stopping at both places on the way up the Shore to see if either has gained an edge on the other, pie-wise.
3. Judy's Cafe
While it may not enjoy the same level of limelight as its neighbors outside of town, Judy's Cafe is a beloved local institution in the town of Two Harbors.
Judy's is located on MN-61 as it passes through town, and it has its own formidable selection of fresh pies on offer.
And it may be your best option for sitting down with a slice of delicious while avoiding the throngs of tourists further up the highway.
So, next time you're heading up the North Shore, make sure to satisfy your pie cravings at one (or all three) of these beloved eateries. You'll be glad that you did!
