Remer is located in Cass County, north of Brainerd, and it has a population of just under 400 people.
While not on any major lakes, Remer lies within the Brainerd Lakes region. In addition to the area lakes, the town is surrounded my lush woods.
All in all, this town is small and charming. It may look like your average town, but it does have a strange claim to fame.
In 2009, a Bigfoot sighting helped to put Remer on the map by drawing national attention. The town was even featured on the Animal Planet program Finding Bigfoot.
The sighting occurred on the rainy night of October 24, 2009, in the dense woods just north of Remer. It was spotted by two hunters who had set up a camera to spot deer.
After the sighting, the town of Remer earned itself a nickname: the Home of Bigfoot.
Though the sighting was more than a decade ago, Bigfoot's footprint still lingers. You can see its influence in the many Bigfoot photo opportunities around town.
Even local businesses take part, with plenty of Bigfoot-themed decorations and events all around Remer.
There are even annual Bigfoot celebrations in Remer. For example, the Bigfoot Music Festival features local musicians.
There is also a Bigfoot Days festival. It features a community barbecue and a 5K run.
