In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, a great small town isn't hard to come by. In every corner of this beautiful state is at least one charming town brimming with fun activities and friendly people. While most getaways in Minnesota involve heading north, we're here to tell you that a tiny town in southeastern Minnesota may make a surprising weekend getaway. Take a look:
Lanesboro, Minnesota, is a tiny town of just under 800 people. But what it lacks in population, it makes up for in small-town charm.
The town is known as the Bed and Breakfast Capital of Minnesota. There is a wide variety of interesting, historic B&Bs to choose from. You'll want to plan multiple trips so you can experience them all!
Another great thing about Lanesboro: it's located in the Root River Valley, so it is surrounded by rolling hills. It's beautiful every season of the year.
The nearby Root River is a great spot for lazy floating in the summertime.
The Root River Trail follows alongside the river. It's a popular spot for hikers and bikers, and it's a great way to see some of the surrounding landscape. Whether you decide to tube the river or bike along its banks, there are outfitters in Lanesboro who will help you get the equipment you need.
Downtown Lanesboro is lined with charming local shops. Antiques, books, and art are all on display in this beautiful little town.
Speaking of art, Lanesboro is friendly to artists of every medium. The local gallery always has interesting work by artists local to the region.
As for food, Lanesboro has a surprising number of restaurants to choose from. Old Village Hall Restaurant & Pub serves great food in an historic setting.
And don't forget something sweet! Another Time Ice Cream Parlor serves up sweet treats throughout the summer, and the delicious Aroma Pie Shoppe lies just outside of town.
All in all, Lanesboro is a beautiful town with plenty to do. You will love your visit!
