Are you ready to experience a Minnesota fall in a brand-new way? It's time to get yourself to Duluth to ride the Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad. With river and lake views, this historic railroad has been a popular way to see fall foliage in Duluth since 1980 - you'll see why.
You'll have the choice between two remodeled 104-year-old train cars. Both were created for the Duluth, Missabe and Northern Railway. Try to score a window seat. You can board the train at 6930 Fremont Street in Duluth.
Or if you really want to enjoy the view, choose the Safari Car. You'll have an open-air experience and a 360-degree panoramic view. This car was first built in 1928.
You're guaranteed to have some stunning views of fall foliage no matter where you end up. The colors alone make the ride worth the cost of admission. Adults ride for $15 and kids four and up ride for $8. Three and under? Completely free.
The route travels alongside the St. Louis River on a portion of the original Mississippi & Superior Railroad. It was the first railroad into Duluth, completed in 1870.
In addition to the leaves, the train's route along the river will take you close to water...
...really close. When you cross the Mud Lake Causeway, the water will be almost close enough to touch. With the colorful leaves in the distance, this looks like a perfect fall day.
But that's not all you'll get to see. The rest of the route is stunning too, especially with the fall colors on display.
The train travels a path lined with may different types of trees. If you go at the right time, you'll be able to enjoy the stunning colors up close.
Peak leaf times in Duluth are usually mid-September to early October. Luckily, the train is open from June to mid-October, so you'll be able to catch the leaves just in time before they fall.
The train runs Saturdays and Sundays throughout its season. It departs at 10:30 and 1:30 each day. It's also available for private charters. Imagine a rolling party through the vibrant foliage of Duluth in the fall. That would be one to remember.
No matter how you choose to enjoy it, you'll experience Duluth fall foliage at its finest. You'll find yourself snapping photos of the vibrant fall foliage the entire way.
This fall foliage train ride lasts 90 minutes to 2 hours, so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the colors along this historic railway ride.
