There are only a million things to do in Minneapolis-Saint Paul; the Twin Cities are full of activities and entertainment that anyone can enjoy. However, in true Minnesota fashion, every once and a while Minneapolis and Saint Paul residents must take a break from the bustle of city life and head up north, even if just for a day. If you're willing to drive for two hours or so, Carlos Creek Winery in Alexandria is a day trip of a lifetime from Minneapolis-Saint Paul.
One of the best wineries in the state of Minnesota can be found in the small town of Alexandria.
This charming winery with its 1950s red Ford truck is totally worth the two-hour drive from the Twin Cities.
Everything about the winery is picturesque.
It won't be just the wine that has you looking at the world through rose-colored glasses. The secluded winery is tranquil, and the entire grounds are illuminated with a golden glow.
The best part of any winery? Wine.
Carlos Creek is inventive with their wine flavors. While, of course, they have your chardonnays and your classic reds, they get inventive with their inclusion of blueberry, cranberry, and apple to some of their wines to create absolutely delicious flavors. The wines are all Minnesota-themed as well, which is simply adorable.
The winery's vines and apple trees are something to be seen and admired.
Every fall, the winery hosts a grape stomping event so guests can be a part of making some of the tastiest wine.
Think Carlos Creek is for adults only? Think again.
There's a huge chess board at the winery and every fall, a festival is thrown which always includes a family-friendly petting zoo, as well as kid-friendly food vendors, and a wonderful root beer stand. Of course, we'll admit that adult-only time is pretty important too.
Occasionally, Carlos Creek hosts live entertainment.
Former American Idol contestants and local cover bands have all played the Carlos Creek circuit.
If you've ever wondered how wine is made, Carlos Creek is happy to give you a tour.
You'll be taught about growing the right grapes, harvesting them, smashing them, and, of course, turning them into a universally loved alcoholic beverage.
Carlos Creek has a wine cave!
It's exactly as cool as it sounds. This is where the wine hangs out while it's being aged until it's ready to be bottled. Tasting wine is an instrumental part of the tour, but don't forget to consume responsibly.
