While we love spending time in the heart of the city, nothing beats the experience of heading out for a day trip and frolicking among the falling snow. One delightful community near the Motor City is chock full of magic during the wintertime, so load up the family and head out for an adventure.
The town of Milford is located in Oakland County, just 45 minutes by car from Detroit.
With a population of just over 6,000 residents, Milford certainly qualifies as a small community, but its size shouldn’t stop you from visiting. There’s so much to enjoy here.
In fact, Milford is technically classified as a village, occupying just 2.5 square miles of space. When you stop by in the winter, you’ll be charmed by the festive vibe.
During the colder months, the downtown area feels like something from a Hallmark movie. You’ll have a blast exploring a variety of boutiques, coffee shops, and eateries.
When snow coats the ground and twinkling lights turn on, the village’s streets are extra magnificent. It’s easy to feel like you’re walking in a winter wonderland in Milford.
Take your winter adventuring to the next level by strolling along Milford Trail, which connects the village to Kensington Metropark. The scenery here is truly second to none.
If you explore Kensington more fully, which can be reached by car from Milford in just ten minutes, you’ll find opportunities to sled, snowshoe, cross-country ski, and enjoy fresh air.
