But what about a road trip that adds in a splash or two of delicious locally-made wine? Grab your designated driver and hop on the road. We've got an amazing wine and waterfalls day trip in Massachusetts that will enchant all of your senses.
All together, the trip involves about two hours of driving. You can check out the route on Google Maps - it's customizable, so you can even add in extra stops, if you like.
You'll start this delightful road trip off with a visit to Doane's Falls in Royalston.
You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful start to your day than exploring these magnificent cascades. Doane’s Falls is a stunning series of waterfalls that tumble down rocky shelves before collecting in a lovely pool. The waterfalls are reached via an easy half-mile hike that’s perfect for adults and kids and won’t have you gasping for breath. Of course, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can also check out the 7.5-mile loop trail that extends from the falls. Otherwise, snap some photos and get back in your car: it's time for destination number two!
Your next stop will be Trap Falls in Ashby.
This little set of falls is tucked away in Willard Brook State Forest. The falls measure about 10 to 12 feet each. The falls are not particularly tall, but they're gorgeous and have a really unique shape.
Get ready to indulge at Nashoba Valley Winery.
Now that you've had plenty of time to admire flowing water, it's time to let the wine flow as well. Nashoba Valley Winery is a beautiful spot in Bolton that features a full restaurant and plenty of outdoor spots to sit with a glass and admire the greenery. They offer a full range of red, white, and dessert wines as well as an on-site distillery and brewery, so even if you don't care for wines, there's something for everyone here! Depending on how you’re feeling, you can either call it a day here to head on over to the last stop on our itinerary.
The last stop is Willow Spring Vineyards in Haverhill.
Head north to Haverhill for this stunning vineyard. The grounds here are absolutely beautiful and might fool you into thinking you’ve accidentally landed in California. You can sample wines, tour the grassy estate, and even sign up for a local wine CSA. This spot is seasonal, so only plan on dropping by between April and December.
You can find directions to each of the destinations in this day trip, as well as a map of the driving route, by checking out the itinerary on Google Maps. If you’d like to explore even more of the amazing waterfalls in Massachusetts, don’t miss our ultimate waterfall road trip.
