Where is Rutland, Mass? Located in Worcester County, the town of Rutland is home to just over 9,000 residents. It's worth visiting this rural town even if just to see the tree that marks the geographic center of the state.
When you visit, there are a few must-see locations in addition to the tree. For example, the Old Ironsides Covered Bridge is a picturesque place to take a walk through.
At 300 acres, Rutland State Park is an essential place to explore the great outdoors. In the summer months, you can swim or boat in the park's pond, or you can go for a hike any time of year.
Rutland Prison Camp is a fascinating peek into the town's past. Located within Rutland State Park, the former prison was built in 1903 to house petty offenders.
Over time, a tuberculosis hospital was added to the grounds and by the 1930s, it was shut down. All that remains are ruins of buildings covered in graffiti.
