When one thinks of coastal towns, the mind tends to conjure up images of boardwalks and oceans. But one of the most under-appreciated aspects of living in Maryland is that you’re almost never very far from the water, and so many of us tend to overlook the fact that the coast of the Chesapeake can offer some excellent beachside experiences without the long drive down the ocean. This little town of Arnold, Maryland may not be as big a draw as the oceanside places we so often think of, but it also happens to offer some great coastal town experiences!
Being sandwiched between two estuaries that open up on the Chesapeake puts Arnold in a unique position - on the east side is the Magothy River, where you can watch the sun rise…
…And at the end of the day you can watch the sun set over the Severn River, just about a 15-minute drive across town.
The name of the popular spot Naval Bagels proudly proclaims the maritime heritage of nearby Annapolis.
The shop has been a staple of the community for years and has even earned a handful of “Best Bagel” awards from the Capital Gazette Newspaper.
There are plenty of parks and trails to hike and enjoy, and riverside beaches around every turn. The whole family is sure to find an outdoor adventure.
And it wouldn’t be a coastal town in Maryland without a great restaurant like Cantler’s Riverside offering views of the bay…
…And, of course, a classic crab feast to enjoy it with.
Arnold offers all the beachfront town experience you could ask for, so much so that you could be forgiven for forgetting this isn’t the open sea.
