One of the things we love best about Maine is the many ways we can all enjoy the wildlife and outdoors. There are hikes that bring us closer to the animals like moose, but is there anything more adorable than a cute alpaca? We're going with a definitive no to answer that question and that's why we think you'll love visiting this fun little farm.
Northern Solstice Alpaca Farm is located in Unity and offers visitors the chance to interact with the most adorable animals on the planet!
Guests have been coming here for tours since 2006 and they continue to be a popular way to spend the day.
Alpacas are known to be sweet and gentle. They're herd animals and are social with each other. And they also love to interact with humans. Perhaps as much as we love to be around them!
They weigh between 100 and 200 pounds and eat a diet of hay.
While they're adorable to be around, they're mainly used for their fur which is spun into yarn to make all sorts of clothing, toys and accessories.
Baby alpacas are called crias and they weigh about 18 pounds when they're born. They begin walking just hours after birth and they're impossibly adorable!
They don't love to be petted, but they'll definitely love being around you. They often approach people to see what they're all about.
That farm offers free tours, which are aimed at educating people about these beauties. Bring your camera and snacks and enjoy the day.
And be sure to stop into their farm store to bring home your own souvenir. Sock and hats are a great gift!
Northern Solstice Alpaca Farm is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can learn more about them on their website or visit them on Facebook. If you have questions, you can reach them on 207-356-2464.
If you love alpacas so much that simply seeing them isn't enough, consider heading out on a hike with one! You can do it in Southport and this article will tell you everything you need to know.
