If not, the small town may be a bit of a mystery to you. Yet, there are plenty of things to do in Blue Hill, Maine.
Located in Hancock County, about 14 miles southwest of Ellsworth and near Acadia National Park, Blue Hill is a special little place. It's nestled between its namesake outdoor attraction, Blue Hill Mountain and the Blue Hill Bay.
Founded around 1762, it's said that the first residents arrived via the bay, got out at Mill Island close to the reversing falls and decided to make a home. And with one visit, you'll understand why.
For nature lovers, there's plenty to do - including the Reversing Falls, a naturally occurring seemingly backwards waterfall.
The Blue Hill Peninsula also offers ample hiking opportunities and water sports, like boating.
Blue Hill Mountain is a lovely walk that leads to sweeping views of Blue Hill Bay and, on a clear day, Acadia National Park.
During warmer months, Woods Pond about two miles south of Blue Hill is a great place for swimming.
And lovers of all things nostalgic flock to the Blue Hill Fair, which takes place every year around Labor Day.
This beloved annual event sees thousands of visitors. Get up close to farm animals, fun booths, and even an annual Whoopie Pie Contest! The fair is just one of the many things to do in Blue Hill, Maine.
Blue Hill is not only located in an idyllic setting, but it's also home to local shops and restaurants to keep the 2,500-ish year-round residents happy.
