There's no doubt about it, Louisiana has some of the strangest town names anywhere in the United States. We've looked all around and found some of the strangest of all, right here in the greater New Orleans area. You'll love these!
1) Killona, upriver from Hahnville
This St. Charles Parish town is home to the Waterford 3 operated by Entergy Nuclear, the Waterford Nuclear Generating Station.
2) Uneedus, north of Mandeville
This small town was formerly the home of the Houlton Lumber Company which took down over four million trees in this area in the early 20th century. The slogan of the company was "You need us."
3) Alluvial City, near the edge of Lake Borgne
This small settlement was given its name by the Department of the Interior because it described the landscape of the area in 1968.
4) White Kitchen, east of Eden Isle
This small area was the home of a neighborhood restaurant that eventually became a small chain called White Kitchen. Those restaurants are gone now but the name remains!
5) New Sarpy, upriver from Luling
This small town was home to a film called Bug directed by William Friedkin, and scenes were filmed inside of Boomerang’s Bar.
6) Yscloskey, southeast of Poydras
This tiny place is right near Alluvial City and is known for being one of the best places to go fishing in the state.
