It's no surprise that summer in Louisiana can be rather brutal. When those temperatures start to rise, it's easy to just stay within the comforts of your air-conditioned home, but where's the fun in that? I'm always on the hunt for an outdoor area to enjoy, and this is one of the best small-town lakes in Louisiana to beat the heat. Grab your squad, a swimsuit, and your sunscreen, because this beautiful lake will become your new go-to spot for summer fun.
Boyce is a tiny little town in northern Rapides Parish that’s home to about 1,000 people.
This small town is home to one of the best areas to swim in Louisiana: the Kincaid Reservoir, also known as Kincaid Lake.
The 2,600-acre reservoir is just the ticket to keeping cool when that summer sun starts beating down.
There are a few different ways you can access the lake, and I’d recommend the Kincaid Lake Recreation Area.
Not only do you have access to a beautiful stretch of beach, but the tree line provides ample shade, too.
There are also several picnic tables and grills peppered around, so feel free to bring some snacks to enjoy.
The fun doesn't stop on the beach, though. Launch your boat and enjoy a day on the water!
The lake is great for water sports like tubing and water skiing.
If fishing is more your style, bring your rod and reel and head out to find your perfect honey hole.
You can also fish from the nearby piers or just from the bank! Obviously, you'll want to steer clear of the swimming area. Largemouth bass, sunfish, bluegill, and channel catfish are just a few of the fish you could reel in.
When you need to get your land legs back, lace up your sneakers and tackle one of the scenic trails.
Several of the trails hug the shoreline, giving you some stunning waterfront scenery along the way.
There's also a waterfront restaurant on the north side of Kincaid Lake, and it's the perfect spot to end your day on the water.
Tunk's Cypress Inn is known for its oysters, but you'll find all sorts of yummy seafood options here, and if you can time your visit around sunset, you'll be in for quite the show!
