When you need to get away from it all in New Orleans, there are lots of options for you. Although not everyone knows how to appreciate it, we have some of the most beautiful swamps in the entire country. Explore Akers, also known as Manchac, to discover all of the natural beauty the areas around New Orleans have to offer.
One of the most beautiful and historic places that is nearby New Orleans is Akers, or Manchac.
It's nestled between Lake Maurepas, Manchac swamp, and the Joyce Wildlife Management Area.
On this picture, Akers would be found near the right hand corner of the lake.

Manchac has always had a place in New Orleans folklore, especially around the various hurricanes that have made it very difficult for residents to survive here.
Some even say that the swamp here is haunted--but regardless of what you believe, it's totally beautiful.
The beauty of Lake Maurepas is really something special.
It's a great place to soak up all of the serenity that the swamp has to offer.
Plus, the famous restaurant found here is Middendorf's. It's a really special place.
The way they fry up catfish and bring in the fresh seafood is amazing!
You will fall in love with the huge variety of wildlife that is found in this area.
This frog species has a knack for filling up the swamp nights with his song.
So go ahead and pay a visit to this small little town outside of New Orleans.
You will certainly have a nice time exploring the natural beauty that surrounds this town.
