Did you know Louisiana has one of the highest populations of alligators in the country? There are over 2 million alligators in the Pelican State, and that’s counting both alligator farms and those found in the wild. They can grow to be more than 12 feet long and weigh up to 1,000 pounds, and those teeth don’t make them any less frightening. A visit to Gator Chateau is one of the most unique alligator farms in Louisiana, and it’s perfect for a family day trip.
Gator Chateau is conveniently located right off of I-10 in Jennings, Louisiana
It’s pretty might dead center between Lake Charles and Lafayette, making it a very convenient stop for anyone exploring Cajun Country.
Gator Chateau isn't your average alligator park.
It's home to tons of baby alligators!
These baby alligators are cared for here at Gator Chateau until they can be released into the wild.
One of the perks of visiting this unique alligator farm is you have the opportunity to hold a baby gator!
It's pretty much a rite of passage for any Louisianian.
Don't worry, everyone's safe. At this age, the alligators are hand-fed and surprisingly "friendly."
The feeding show is always entertaining.
Check their Facebook to find out the feeding schedule.
The Oil and Gas Park is the chateau's neighbor, and the waterfront views are lovely.
Carve out some time to walk around the water's edge or pack a lunch and enjoy a snack on one of the picnic tables peppered around the park.
Gator Chateau is free to enter, but donations are accepted and go towards helping the next generation of alligators get released into the wild.
They are open Monday - Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Be sure to give them a follow on Facebook so you never miss out on any special events. If you've ever visited Gator Chateau, share your experience with us in the comments below!
