Small towns are great for so many reasons, particularly main streets. Main streets are the core of their communities, strengthened by community efforts and revitalization programs. There's something so special about strolling down a town's main street, being welcomed by local business owners, and finding unique items to add to your collection. Let's take a look at some of our favorite main streets in Louisiana (in no particular order).
1. Natchitoches
Technically called Front Street, the state’s oldest permanent settlement has one of the most beautiful main streets in the state.
2. West Monroe
Antique alley is especially reminiscent of a traditional main street, with several antique shops lining the street.
3. Breaux Bridge
The Crawfish Capital of the World has a lovely little main street lined with local shops, boutiques, and cafes.
4. Covington
Both Lee Lane and Boston Avenue are wonderful streets featuring boutiques, jewelry stores, bars, restaurants, and so much more.
5. Homer
The historical buildings alone are reason enough to take a stroll down main street in Homer.
6. Ruston
The business owners of Main Street really care about the community and hold monthly meetings to discuss the continued development of downtown Ruston.
7. St. Martinville
Located on the Bayou Teche, St. Martinville is well-known for being the inspiration behind Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem Evangeline, written in 1847. Stroll down Main Street and take in the beautiful scenery and architecture.
8. Abbeville
Abbeville’s Main Street Program is dedicated to preserving the history of this beautiful little city.
9. Franklin
Colorful shops add to the charm of this lamp post lined Main Street in Franklin.
10. Opelousas
Antiques, restaurants, and maybe even the occasional Zydeco band are all just waiting for you.
11. Crowley
Known for its annual International Rice Festival, downtown Crowley has several unique shops that would love to have your business.
12. New Iberia
A walk through this historic main street is just lovely. Restaurants, historic theaters, amazing architecture, and of course, shopping.
13. Denham Springs
Denham Springs Antique Village is the perfect way to spend an afternoon strolling down main street.
14. Columbia
You’ll love the shops on this cute little tree lined street.
15. Morgan City
The brightly colored buildings will liven up any walk though this town.
16. Minden
Established in 1835, Minden’s Main Street remains the heart and soul of Minden. Preservation projects began in 1987, and today the street is on the National Register of Historic Places.
17. Leesville
This sleepy little city will make you feel right at home.
