Every town in Kentucky has one street where the locals tend to hang out the most. This main street will usually have some form of entertainment, delicious food, drinks or some historical sites. We are proud of our local businesses, and the townies that made them happen. The rich history in some of these places can take us back to the past in a pleasant reminder of Kentucky’s history long before we were born.

11. Louisville

A walk down this Main Street is an adventure in itself. There are a variety of five star restaurants, unique cafes and local businesses. Enjoy dining at Proof on Main then check out the Louisville Slugger Bat Museum, all within a short stroll.

10. Shelbyville

The Shelbyville Main Street is a charming collection of scenic historical buildings and local businesses. The popular Bell House Restaurant is a must visit, where southern hospitality and grace are both generously provided.

9. Lexington

Walking down Main Street one can feel the history of the community, and experience a tour at the historic Mary Todd Lincoln House. Afterwards enjoy some fantastic food at Sawyer’s Downtown Restaurant and Grill or Tony’s for some out of this world seafood.

8. Elizabethtown

This town is so special there was a movie, "Elizabethtown", made about it. The most historically scenic road in Etown seems to be Dixie Avenue, where the Historic State Theater Complex, Hardin County History Museum and the Ancestral Trails Historical are all located. There are some great local diners in the area, along with very friendly Kentuckians.

7. Cave City

You can’t find much better food then Big Moose’s Barbecue on Main Street, and no better atmosphere then the Victorian House Bed and Breakfast. Located not far from Mammoth Cave, Main Street is a great first stop to enjoy the small town atmosphere of this city.

6. Covington

This community has a Main Street rich in history and amazing restaurants. Try New Orleans type cuisine at Dee Felice Café, complete with Jazz Music, or enjoy a pint at the Cock and Bull English Pub. There are plenty of other places to experience, but both of these get great reviews.

5. Bowling Green

It may not be expected but this Main Street offers Cajun cuisine at 440 Main, Greek and German at the Verdi Restaurant and plenty of more choices. There is a incredible environment to stop in and indulge the senses within just a few blocks.

4. Frankfort

Our state capital’s Main Street is full of Kentucky history, and pizza places. Common pizza chains and unique places like Serafini and Linney’s offer great Italian cuisine. Plus there are plenty of historic sites to tour, like the Governor’s mansion.

3. Paducah

This is one of the most beautifully preserved Main Streets in Kentucky. It has been recognized as one of the most romantic and historical places to take a pleasant evening stroll and enjoy the local architecture.

2. Berea

This gorgeous town is considered Kentucky’s arts and craft capital, and Main Street holds quite the allure. Among other attractions, the historic Boone Tavern is located there, along with an active art and craft community and shops.

1. Bardstown

From the highlights of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail to the pleasant local diners, this strip in Bardstown is filled with history, great food and plenty of places to add memories. Bardstown is rich with historic locations.
