The best way to experience our historic destinations around Kentucky is to take a tour that teaches the history and interesting stories of the landmark. As informative as the tours typically are, many of these places offer unique experiences to tour the grounds, especially around specific holidays. My Old Kentucky Home in Bardstown is a must-see spot for all Kentuckians, but if you're interested in more than just the general history, then plan on taking one of their Shadows of Federal Hill Tours. Held in October, it's an exciting haunted attraction in Kentucky that shares the ghostly past of the home and shows you the property like never before.
My Old Kentucky Home is a historical site in Bardstown that welcomes many visitors and locals all year long.
It's a beautiful place that is filled with Kentucky history, and their tours are not your average museum experience. Many of them are themed and seasonal and you have a variety of choices when it comes to how you want to learn about My Old Kentucky Home.
One of the most popular experiences at My Old Kentucky Home returns in October with the Shadows of Federal Hill Tour.
This haunted attraction in Kentucky is a unique way to tour the home, while learning about both the history and the ghostly tales of its past. This year, the tour is offered October 18, 19, 24, 25 & 26.
The tour is actually a family-friendly event, although it can get a little spooky at times.
You'll begin the evening at the property's cemetery and then will be led by the Undertaker into the mansion. The ghosts of Federal Hill will greet you in song and lead you through the home.
This stately, historic home has such a long history that it's no wonder that it is filled with ghost stories.
The photo above shows the property in 1887. About 30 years prior, resident John Rowan Jr. died from a broken neck after falling out of Federal Hill's window sills. This is just one of many bone-chilling stories from the home's past.
The photo below from 1895 shows John Rowan's wife, Rebecca Carnes Rowan, who passed away two years later.
The furniture you see in the photo is still in the same position as it was well over 100 years ago. You'll learn this and much more along a tour throughout My Old Kentucky Home.
During the tour, you'll be led through the home and told spooky tales of what has been experienced within these walls.
But the tour is not the only part of this haunted attraction in Kentucky. You can also take a hayride around the back of the property ($5 extra and best for kids 8 and up), and also make your own smores around a fire (also $5 extra).
You'll want to make an entire evening out of your visit to My Old Kentucky Home and consider arriving early to explore the beautiful property in the fall.
