Kansas can be a busy place, even if you live in a small town. We're on the constant lookout for places in Kansas that you don't find a lot of human interaction, so you can get a break from everyone and everything. Places to truly get away from it all, with no one but nature to bother you. Here are some of our favorites, but feel free to share others with us that you've found in your travels as well. 1. Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve (Strong City)
Losing the sounds of civilization and exploring the prairie is always a great choice when you need to get away. The soothing sounds of the wind through the grasses will help put your mind at ease. There's just so many places to explore, and maybe you'll find an abandoned building while you explore.
2. Coronado Heights (Lindsborg)
Coronado Heights is more busy in the summer, but when there's been a little rain or you're out hiking around, you can have the whole place to yourself! There's a little trail leading up to it, and the local town of Lindsborg is a great place to grab a bite to eat beforehand.
3. El Dorado State Park (El Dorado)
This state park needs all the love it can get, especially in months where the lake is too cold for most people. There's so much nature to be explored here, so if you haven't had a hike around, you should definitely add it to your list. Who knows what wildlife you'll meet along the way?
4. Monument Rocks (Gove County)
Monument Rocks is a hit-or-miss lonely spot that won't be here forever. Check it out when the weather's a little sad or when it's cold outside, and you'll most likely have the place to yourself.
5. Arikaree Breaks (Cheyenne County)
Arikaree Breaks is a good area to stop and check out when you're near the northwest corner of Kansas. It's our very own Grand Canyon, no matter how much smaller it may seem.

6. Cheyenne Bottoms (Great Bend)
Stellar sunsets, calming water, and full of wildlife are three ways to describe Cheyenne Bottoms. It's a wonderful place to explore if you don't mind getting a little muddy while you're here.
7. Meade State Park (Meade)
Meade State Park is a place of beauty, but like many of our parks, people avoid them during cold months. So, if you need a beautiful place away from home, just bundle up and head to Meade for a great day away from it all.
8. Baker Wetlands (Lawrence)
Many Kansans don't know about our wetlands, and just how full of live they can be. Of course, that also means there will be less visitors! Just make sure to bring your wellies if you're planning to adventure a ways.
9. Clinton Lake (Douglas County)
Clinton Lake is gorgeous in the cooler months, with bald eagles and all sorts of sunsets to give the lake a rainbow reflection. I've found that it's a great place to go when you want to fish alone, or just walk along the water.
