In small town Kansas, you'll find plenty of happy, kind people. Though many towns have their pros and cons, this town in the heart of Kansas is one of the happiest places in the state, and we think America as well. Don't believe us? Ask those who live there why they love their town. As for us, here's why we think they're so happy:
Firstly, they have just the right amount of people to keep it interesting without being overwhelming. As of the 2010 census, they had 4,506 residents, which makes it easy to know your neighbors and not know everyone.
On one hand, being in the center of Kansas means they have the best of both worlds. They're in the middle of everything, which means it's no farther to drive to Monument Rocks than it is to Wamego.
Plus, they have wonderful restaurants to dine at whenever they want. A great example would be Meridy's, a favorite of many both in Russell and from out of town.
They also have a couple great bars, including 840 Ale House, where you can grab a drink and enjoy a night out with friends without listening to 20 televisions playing four different sports games.
The town itself is full of great people, of course. However, it's been that way for a long time. Russell started as a settlement, but became more popular (and more populated) after an oil boom in the 1920-30s. It's also the home of Bob Dole, whose name you might recognize as the one who ran against Bill Clinton in 1996.
The town is also full of other historical significance and a general sense of peace. It doesn't take much to see why this town is so happy, but maybe spending a while here will help!
Afterwards, make sure to check out another small town in Kansas, but this time with insanely tasty restaurants all over the place.
