There's nothing like a small town to help clear your mind and bring out the spirit of exploration. These small towns in Kansas are just a little sleepy, meaning they feel like they don't change too much over the years. Small town people are some of the friendliest, and you might find yourself house shopping for the future on your visits. That small town charm is alive and well in these towns, and they're just a drive away.
1. Russell
With a population resting just under 5,000, this town has that perfect mix of small town charm without feeling empty or abandoned. Like many small towns in Kansas, they have a beautiful main street, and plenty of small businesses to support during your visit.
2. Lindsborg
Lindsborg, also known as Little Sweden to some, is full of Swedish-inspired charm from natives that are constantly bringing their culture out to the world. Count all the town's Dala Horses, visit with the locals, and eat at the Swedish Crown to bring your evening in a unique town to a close.
3. Paola
Another small town with a population around 5,000, Paola is quiet and full of life that's not busy. It has a long history with Native Americans, and the town square area was actually given to the town by Indian leader Baptiste Peoria as a peace treaty. To this day, no building has been built on the square in honor of that.
4. Marysville
A small and quiet town, Marysville doesn't ask for much. Come and visit with locals, support small businesses, and enjoy this stop on what once was the Oregon Trail and Pony Express.
5. Smith Center
Smith Center doesn't have a lot to do, but the 1,500 people living here don't mind one bit. Grab a Jiffy Burger and watch the sunset without all that city noise you're probably used to.
6. Abilene
Abilene isn't a tiny town, but it is absolutely brimming with history that they celebrate whenever possible. Whether that's with historical reenactments or museums, you'll find that this town loves where it came from.
7. Cottonwood Falls
Cottonwood Falls has one of those main streets you instantly fall in love with. A beautiful courthouse sits at the head of the street, and small businesses line the road on either side. What more could you want from a simple, quiet town?
8. Scott City
Scott City is a favorite of many, because of its closeness to Monument Rocks (aka the Chalk Pyramids). However, there's much to discover in this quiet town that's been this way for a while.
9. Colby
Colby is a quiet place that never feels empty, even when the streets are quiet. There's always someone to chat with, something to eat, and somewhere to explore.
10. Ulysses
Ulysses is probably one of the happiest towns on earth, but why is that? They've got the perfect blend of small-town charm and local history that they'll never forget. Why not take a day to explore this charming small town?
11. Wakeeney
Wakeeney is home to the never-ending Christmas park, and their love for joy doesn't end there. You'll find that locals (and their food) will keep you here longer than you planned.
